Long before the Apple IIe, Commodore 64, Radio Shack Ti99 or any Windows®
based computers exsisted, my father had the insight to purchase one of the first
computers made for personal use. The Ohio Scientific Challenger 4P with it's robust
8k of static memory that was expanded to 32k after dad hand soldered the extra
memory card in place. To draw comparison an average mp3 song contains more than
3000k of data, so you can definately appreciate how far computers have come.
Needless to say I was awestruck with this
amazing device and it’s monochrome
monitor. In the fall of 1979 I came proudly
through the door of Mrs. Pemberton’s 4th
grade class at Gleniffer Hill grade school
with my father’s computer to demonstrate
my first self coded computer program.
None of my classmates or friends had seen
a computer before and the entire faculty
spent the day in our classroom taking turns
trying out my game.
The game was a simulated pencil company where you choose the amount of resources you spend
on each aspect of the company each month combined with some of the random variables of life that
would determine the outcome of each business quarter. The program had warehouse fires, storms, layoffs,
strikes, and costs of goods that affected the outcome with each game cycle. I continued to program
throughout high school but slowly lost interest as girls, bands, and cars seemed alot less nerdly.
After serving in the Kansas Army National Guard and a decade of playing in local bands, I realized
how much I missed computers and got started in college. Being a single parent, non-traditional student,
and a full time employee made the challenges seem overwhelming, but with determination and the help
of some great friends, I graduated from the Kansas State University in 2001.The two years of course
work in computer science and four years of fine arts focused on design gave rebirth to my artistry.
I worked fulltime as the first web designer for GTM Sportswear in Manhattan, Kansas and did tech
support for SBC Global DSL until my return to Salina. In 2004 made2save was created as a haven for
all my business and artistic ventures. My son and I began selling paintball gear and electronics online
while waiting for the computer and design business to pick up. Constantly looking for ways to expand,
I published colorful "how to guides" to accompany my products and would sell them on eBay in email
format to save overhead.

Now 7 years later, I have repaired hundreds of computers, restored data from damaged drives,
installed networks, reassembled notebooks, taken thousands of photos and written many commercial
websites. In addition to aiding failed computers, I develop advertisments, flash animation, client videos,
voiceovers, soundtracks, radio commercials, company logos, letterheads, custom eBay auctions and
You Tube videos. I play multiple instruments and enjoy song writing and collaborating with others. My
studio is equipped with full 96 track digital stereo recording capabilites and I can compete with local
printers on most any media. I appreciate you taking time to visit my site and look forward to helping
you with all your graphic design and computer needs!

                                           Sincerely, Jamie L. Hughes jamie@made2save.com
